Overview
A department is an employee's organizational affiliation: kitchen, floor, warehouse, administration. It is set on the employee record and used for grouping in reports and time tracking.
Do not confuse it with Subdivisions: a subdivision is a preparation area with an attached printer that order lines are routed to. Departments are about people, subdivisions are about routing dishes.

Tips
- Create departments before bulk-entering employees — setting a department on each record afterwards takes longer than picking it at creation time.
- A department already assigned to employees is better renamed than deleted: deletion breaks the link on existing records.
