Mobile waiter — Paloma365 Classic (Windows POS)

This article covers Paloma365 Classic, the Windows POS application. The mobile waiter is an add-on module that lets waiters take orders from a phone: the mobile app connects to the POS, and the POS itself prints receipts and kitchen slips for it.

Overview

The module is enabled with a single checkbox in the POS settings. Once it is on, a "Mob. waiter" button appears on the POS — waiters' phones are connected through it. Enabling the module also automatically turns on the "Print server for android" option: the POS where the module was enabled starts printing on behalf of the mobile devices, so that POS must stay on while waiters work from their phones.

How to enable

  1. Open the POS settings window (see POS settings).
  2. On the "General settings" tab find the "Additional modules" section.
  3. Tick the "Mobile waiter" checkbox (labeled "Use Waiter app" in the English build). Its hint warns that it automatically enables "Print server for android" — the matching checkbox on the "Receipts and Reports" tab (the "System management" section) turns on by itself.
  4. Save the settings and re-enter the working screens — the "Mob. waiter" button appears where it is provided.

How to connect a waiter's phone

  1. The waiter must sign in on the POS with their own code — the connection is tied to a specific employee.
  2. Press the "Mob. waiter" button:
    • in the waiter's order list (next to "New order", "View order" and "Extended mode");
    • or on the table map (see Hall layout and tables); the button is hidden while the layout editor is open.
  3. The POS shows "Please wait..." and opens the mobile app connection window. Follow the instructions in that window to pair the phone.

Connected devices are remembered by the POS and tied to the employee.

Printing for mobile waiters

Receipts and slips created from a phone are printed by the POS designated as the print server (the "Print server for android" checkbox is enabled automatically together with the module). Printer setup is described in Receipt printing and printers.

Common problems

  • No "Mob. waiter" button — the "Mobile waiter" checkbox is off in the POS settings, or you are in the hall layout editor where the button is not shown.
  • The "Mobile waiter" checkbox switched itself off — the POS could not load the mobile waiter module: its files are missing or damaged. Reinstall/update the POS (see Installation and updates) and enable the checkbox again.
  • A module version warning appears at startup (a message that a module version is below the minimum required and the listed modules must be updated) — the mobile waiter module is outdated. Update the POS, otherwise the module may not work correctly.
  • Nothing prints from the phone — the POS with the module enabled (the print server) must be switched on and on the same network. Check the "Print server for android" checkbox on the "Receipts and Reports" tab.

FAQ

On how many POS terminals should the module be enabled?

Enable it on the POS that will serve the mobile devices — it becomes the print server for the app. That POS must run the whole time the waiters use their phones.

Which employee does a phone get tied to?

The one signed in on the POS at the moment the "Mob. waiter" button is pressed. To connect another waiter's phone, have that waiter sign in with their own code and repeat the pairing.

How does the "Mobile waiter" differ from the "Waiter" interface on the POS?

The "Waiter" interface is a working mode of the Windows POS itself (see POS interfaces). The mobile waiter is a separate mobile app on a phone that connects to the POS.
