Event log (activity log) — Paloma POS 2

This article is about Paloma POS 2 — the new touchscreen Paloma cash-register app. It covers the workplace activity log: a single chronological feed showing everything that happened on the register during a day — order payments, cash in/out movements, employee clock-ins and clock-outs, and shift open/close. If you are not sure this is your app, start with “How to tell you have Paloma POS 2”.

Overview

  • The log merges four event sources into one feed sorted newest first: order payments (sales, refunds, voids), cash drawer movements, employee clock in/out punches, and shift open/close.
  • The screen is read-only: nothing can be posted, edited or reversed from the log — it exists so you can scan a shift's activity in one place without hopping between reports.
  • The log shows local data of this workplace: events from other registers do not appear in it.
  • Access is controlled by the operations-log view right: in access types it is called «Allow log operations». Without this right the entry points are not shown at all.

How to open the log: two entry points

There are two ways in, both labelled «Activity Log»:

The screen that opens is titled «Activity Log» as well. Note for mixed-language teams: in the Russian interface the entry points and the screen carry two different names — the menu entry is «Журнал событий» (“event log”) while the screen header is «Журнал активности» (“activity log”). They are the same single screen, not two different logs.

Both entry points are visible only to employees with the «Allow log operations» (view) right; without it the rows are simply hidden.

What lands in the log

Each row is one event: a type icon on the left, then the title, the time, the employee and a detail (order number tail or operation reason), and the signed amount on the right. Inflows show with a plus; outflows (refunds, voids, cash-outs) show with a minus and are highlighted in red. Row types:

EventWhere it comes from
«Cash sale»An order paid in cash — see “Taking payment”
«Card sale»An order paid by card
«Refund»A refund on an order — see “Returns”
«Void»A voided payment
«Cash in»Cash put into the drawer; the row shows the reason — see “Reports and cash operations”
«Cash out»Cash taken out of the drawer, with the reason
«{name} clocked in»An employee clocked in on the time clock — see “Employees and access types”
«{name} clocked out»An employee clocked out
«Shift opened»A cash shift was opened
«Shift closed»A cash shift was closed — see “Shift close and Z-report”

Clock and shift rows have no amount — they are non-monetary events.

Picking the day

Above the feed sits a day-picker bar:

  • «Today» and «Yesterday» chips — one-tap switching; the log opens on today by default.
  • A calendar button (tooltip «Pick a day») — opens a calendar for any past date (available back to the previous year).
  • Next to the calendar a chip shows the currently selected day.

If nothing happened on the selected day, the log says “No activity recorded today” / “yesterday” / “this day” — the wording follows the selected day, so it is clear the data is not missing; there simply was no activity.

Below the day bar is the filter bar; every filter applies instantly, without reloading:

  • Type chips: «Sales», «Cash», «Clock», «Shift». Several can be on at once; “Sales” covers sales, refunds and voids, “Cash” covers cash in/out, “Clock” covers clock-ins and clock-outs, “Shift” covers shift open/close. With no chip selected, all types show.
  • The «Employee» dropdown — show one operator's events; the «All employees» value removes the restriction. The dropdown's options are harvested from the selected day's events, so even operators since deleted from the roster stay pickable.
  • The «Search activity» field — free-text search over the row's text: the event title (as shown on screen) and the detail line (order number tail, cash in/out reason).

As soon as any filter is active, a «Clear filters» button appears — it resets all three axes at once. If the filters screen out everything, the feed shows “No activity matches these filters”.

Important about switching days: when you flip to another day, the employee filter resets to «All employees» (the employee list is built from that specific day's events), while the type chips and the search text are kept.

Common problems

  • No «Activity Log» entry in the menu or in «Reports» — the employee lacks the «Allow log operations» view right. An administrator grants it in access types — see “Employees and access types”.
  • The log is empty on a Management device — that is expected: the log shows a workplace's events, and a device in management mode has no workplace bound, so there is nothing to show — see “Management mode”.
  • Sales from another register are not visible — the log shows local data of this workplace. For the consolidated picture across registers, use the web dashboard reports.
  • “No activity matches these filters” — the day has events, but the filters hid them. Tap «Clear filters».
  • Picked an employee, switched the day — the filter dropped — by design: switching the day resets the «Employee» selection; chips and search remain. Pick the employee again.
  • “Couldn't load activity log” — the log failed to read its data. Close and reopen the screen; if the error persists, restart the app.

FAQ

Why does the Russian interface show two different names for this screen?

It is one and the same screen: «Журнал событий» is the label on the entry points (side menu and the «Reports» hub), «Журнал активности» is the header of the opened screen. In English both are simply «Activity Log». There is no second log in the app.

Can I void a sale or edit an event from the log?

No. The log is read-only — it posts and changes nothing. Refunds and voids are done from the order — see “Returns”.

Does the log show events from other registers?

No, the log shows only this workplace's events. For the whole location's picture, use the web dashboard reports or the register reports — see “Reports on the register and cash operations”.

Where do the clocked in / clocked out rows come from?

From time tracking: employees clock in and out on the register, and those punches land in the log — see “Employees and access types”.

How is the log different from the cash sheet?

The cash sheet is a money report with inflow/outflow totals. The log is a chronological feed of individual events without totals — but alongside the money it shows clock-ins/outs and shift open/close. To reconcile amounts, use the reports — see “Reports on the register and cash operations”.

How far back can I browse?

Any day via the calendar, back to the previous year: the «Today» and «Yesterday» chips give quick access, and the «Pick a day» button covers the rest. The log always shows exactly one whole day.
