Points occupancy — Paloma POS 2
This article is about Paloma POS 2 — the new touchscreen Paloma cash-register app. It covers the Points occupancy screen — a table-occupancy monitor across all sales points of the account: how many tables are taken at each venue, the total of its open orders, and who is serving a specific table. If you are not sure this is your app, start with “How to tell you have Paloma POS 2”.
Overview
- Points occupancy is a view-only screen: from one register you can see table occupancy at every venue of the account, but you cannot open or change another point’s order from here. Other points’ orders live on that point’s registers — see “Table orders”.
- Open it with the Points occupancy tile on the main menu screen, in the sales section — next to the table-orders tiles.
- The tile and the screen are available to an employee with the right to view sales points — the same right that opens the sales-points list (see “Sales points and workplaces”). Without the right the tile is hidden.
- The first screen (titled Occupancy by point) is a venue list: one card per point with the numbers Occupied: X of Y and the Open orders: {sum} total. Tapping a card opens the halls-and-tables detail; tapping an occupied table opens an info sheet.
- Data paints instantly from the register’s local storage and refreshes in the background: on entering the screen, on pull-to-refresh, and automatically about every 30 seconds. Offline, the last received snapshot stays on screen — see “Sync and offline”.
Venue list
On the main menu screen tap the Points occupancy tile. A list of cards opens — one per sales point of the account:
- Venue name. The point this register belongs to comes first and carries the This point badge.
- Occupied: X of Y — how many tables are taken out of the point’s total.
- Open orders: {sum} — the total of the point’s open orders. The line shows only when there are open orders.
- Above the list is a freshness line: Updated at {time} — the time of the last successful refresh. If data has never arrived yet, it reads No data yet — waiting for the first sync. instead.
Tap a card to open the point’s detail.
Detail: halls and tables
The detail screen shows the selected venue’s halls, each with a grid of table tiles:
- Occupied tables are highlighted in color and show the open order’s total right on the tile; free tables stay neutral.
- If a hall has no tables, the caption No tables is shown.
- At the top is the same freshness line (Updated at {time} or No data yet — waiting for the first sync.).
The occupied-table sheet
Tapping an occupied table opens a read-only sheet with the order’s info:
- Order total — the current order amount.
- Opened at — when the order was opened.
- Guests — the guest count (when set).
- Workplace — the register the order is being run on.
- Employee — who is serving the table.
- More open orders on this table — a “+N” hint when more than one open order is listed on the table.
You cannot open the order itself from the sheet: its lines live on the registers of the point where it was created. To work with the order, use a register of that point — see “Table orders”.
Data refresh and offline
- The screen always paints instantly from the register’s local storage — the network never delays the display.
- A refresh runs on entering the screen, on pull-to-refresh, and automatically about every 30 seconds while the screen is open.
- Offline, the refresh is skipped silently and the last received snapshot stays on screen; the Updated at {time} line tells you how fresh it is. More on offline mode in “Sync and offline”.
Common issues
- No “Points occupancy” tile on the main screen — the employee lacks the right to view sales points. An administrator grants it in the access settings — see “Sales points and workplaces” and “Management mode”.
- “No sales points yet.” — the register does not know any point of the account yet. Wait for the first reference-data sync and pull the list down.
- “No data yet — waiting for the first sync.” — occupancy data has never arrived yet (or the whole account has no open orders). Check connectivity and pull the list down.
- “Couldn't load occupancy.” — the register could not read the data. Pull the screen down to refresh; if that does not help, re-enter the screen.
- The numbers look stale — check the Updated at {time} line: offline, the last snapshot is shown. Restore connectivity and the data refreshes automatically within about 30 seconds.
- “Occupied” is greater than the total tables — the point has an open order on a table that has already been removed from the floor plan. Close that order on a register of that point and the numbers will reconcile.
FAQ
Can I open another point’s order from this screen?
No. The screen is view-only: tapping an occupied table shows a sheet with the total, opening time, guests, workplace and employee, but the order itself cannot be opened. Its lines live on the registers of the point where it was created.
How do I tell which card is my point?
The point this register belongs to is always listed first and carries the This point badge.
How often does the data refresh?
Automatically about every 30 seconds while the screen is open, and on every entry to the screen. You can also refresh manually at any moment — pull the list down.
What shows when there is no internet?
The last received occupancy snapshot. The screen does not go blank and is not blocked — the numbers just stop updating, and the Updated at {time} line shows when data last arrived.
Why does a table show a “+N” hint about more open orders?
A single table can carry several open orders (for example forgotten empty ones). The sheet shows the table’s main order, and the More open orders on this table line tells you how many more orders are listed on it.
