Sales points and workplaces — Paloma POS 2
This article is about Paloma POS 2 — the new touchscreen Paloma cash-register app. It covers the “Sales Points” section: how to review all the venues and registers of the account right on the register, create or edit a sales point (name, payments, menu, address), add workplaces and control which part of the catalog each register sees. If you are not sure this is your app, start with “How to tell you have Paloma POS 2”.
Overview
- A sales point is a venue (store, café, branch). A workplace is a specific register inside the venue; a device signs in to the account as a workplace (see “Sign-in, PIN and shift”).
- The “Sales Points” section opens two ways: a tile on the main menu screen and the same entry in the side menu. It is visible only to employees who have the sales-points view permission, granted in access types (see “Employees and roles”).
- The dashboard groups registers by venue: the group header is the venue name with its logo and register count, and below it sits one row per workplace. The workplace this device is signed in as carries a “Current” chip.
- You can create and edit a venue right on the register, even without internet: changes are saved locally at once and sync to the cloud when online. Until a change reaches the cloud, the venue or workplace shows an “Unsynced” chip.
- The venue header links to the venue's halls and tables — see “Table orders”.
Open the sales points dashboard
- On the main menu screen tap the “Sales Points” tile (or open the side menu and pick the same entry).
- A list opens: each venue is its own group. The header shows the logo, name and register count; the rows below list the venue's workplaces. A workplace row may show the serial number of the last device that used it.
- The “Current” chip marks the workplace this register is signed in as.
- If a venue was created on the register and has not reached the cloud yet, an “Unsynced” chip shows under its name. A venue with no registers yet shows “No registers configured yet.”
- Buttons in the venue header: the door icon opens “Halls & tables”, the pencil opens “Edit sales point”.
- An empty list says “No sales points yet.” — tap the “Add sales point” button at the bottom of the screen.
Create or edit a sales point
Tap “Add sales point” (or the pencil on an existing venue). The “New sales point” / “Edit sales point” form opens:
- Logo — tap the image area and pick a photo; the logo shows in the venue list.
- “Name” — required; the form will not save without it (“Name is required”).
- “Phone” and “Info string on receipt” — up to 200 characters printed on the receipt (greeting, Wi-Fi, promos).
- The “Payment & customer” block:
- “Cash payment type” — required; pick a payment type from the list (the list shows payment-type names, see “Taking payment”).
- “Card payment type” — required; it must differ from the cash one, otherwise the form shows “Card type must differ from cash type”.
- “Default customer” — required; this customer is attached to sales when no buyer is picked.
- “Menu” — pins a menu to the venue. The default is “No menu (full catalog)”. When you pick a specific menu, the register offers only it in orders: “When set, the POS shows only this menu — the base catalog is hidden.” Creating menus is covered in “Menus and rotation”.
- “Main menu folder” — the product group the Order catalog opens at on this venue's registers. The default is “Not set (full catalog)”. A workplace's own root folder overrides the venue folder. Product groups are covered in “Item editor”.
- “Timezone (e.g. America/New_York)” — a text field with a timezone identifier.
- The “Address” block: “Street”, “City”, “State”, “ZIP”, “Country”, “Building”, “Floor”, “Apt / unit”, “Entry code”.
- Switches:
- “Prompt for quantity” — “Ask the operator to enter a quantity on every line add.”
- “Ask for customer count” — “Prompt for the number of guests when opening a table.”
- “Shared shift for the point” — “One cash shift shared by every workplace of this venue. Off = a separate shift per workplace.” While the venue has an open shift the switch is locked with the hint “Close the open shift to change this.”
- Tap “Save” (the button reads “Saving…” while it writes). Leaving the form with unsaved edits asks “Discard changes?”
To delete a venue, tap the trash icon in the editor header: the register asks “Delete sales point?” and explains the venue disappears from the list immediately while the change syncs to the cloud when online.
Workplaces inside a venue
The “Workplaces” section appears in the venue editor once the venue has been saved at least once (the new-venue form does not show it yet).
- Tap “Add workplace”. In the “New workplace” dialog fill in:
- “Name” — how the register appears in lists;
- “Login” and “Password” — the credentials a device uses to sign in as this workplace (see “Sign-in, PIN and shift”). The password is stored encrypted;
- “Root folder” — the product group this register's catalog opens at: “When set, this register's Order catalog opens at this product group (overrides the point's main menu folder).” The default is “Not set (full catalog)”.
- Tap “Save”. The new workplace appears in the list immediately; until the record reaches the cloud it carries an “Unsynced” chip.
- To change a register, tap its row or the pencil — the “Edit workplace” dialog opens. The login and password fields come up empty: “Leave blank to keep the current password” — fill them only to change the credentials.
- Deleting — the trash icon in the dialog header: the register asks “Delete workplace?” and warns the workplace disappears from the list immediately while the change syncs to the cloud when online.
Working offline
All venue and workplace edits are offline-safe: they are saved on the device instantly and queued for sync. An “Unsynced” chip on a venue or workplace means the record is not yet confirmed by the cloud. Other registers of the account see the changes after this device goes online and sync completes both ways — see “Sync and offline mode” for details.
Common problems
- "Эта точка продаж больше недоступна." / "Эта точка продаж недоступна локально." — the point was deleted or has not reached the device yet. Tap the cloud sync icon; if it was deleted, pick another one.
- "Не удалось загрузить точки продаж: {error}", "Не удалось сохранить. Попробуйте ещё раз." — the list or the edit did not go through; retry.
- Another register does not see the new workplace — on the register where it was created, check for the “Unsynced” chip: while it shows, the record has not reached the cloud. Connect the device to the internet and wait for sync, then refresh the sign-in list on the second register.
- “Card type must differ from cash type” — the venue form has the same payment type selected for cash and card. Pick two different types; create a separate card payment type if needed (see “Taking payment”).
- The product catalog disappeared after picking a menu — that is by design: a pinned menu hides the base catalog, the register offers only that menu's items. To bring the full catalog back, open the venue editor and set the “Menu” field to “No menu (full catalog)”.
- The payment-type list shows a number marked “(current)” instead of a name — the payment-type catalog has not synced to this device yet. The saved value is not lost; after sync the list shows normal names.
- No “Sales Points” tile on the main screen — the employee lacks the sales-points view permission. An administrator grants it in access types (see “Employees and roles”).
- The Order catalog opens at the wrong folder — check both levels: the venue's “Main menu folder” and the workplace's “Root folder”. The workplace folder wins; picking “Not set (full catalog)” restores the full catalog.
FAQ
What is the difference between a sales point and a workplace?
A sales point is the whole venue: name, address, payment types, menu. A workplace is a specific register inside the venue with its own login and password. One venue can hold several workplaces, and a device signs in to the account as a workplace.
Can I create a venue and a register without internet?
Yes. Edits are saved on the device immediately and marked with an “Unsynced” chip; once online they go to the cloud automatically. Other devices see them after sync.
How do I make a register show only part of the items?
Two tools. The venue's “Main menu folder” opens the Order catalog at the chosen product group for every register of the venue; a workplace's “Root folder” overrides that for one register. The “Menu” field goes further — it hard-locks the venue to one menu and hides the base catalog entirely.
What is the “Default customer” for?
It is the customer attached to sales when the cashier does not pick a buyer manually — a regular walk-in customer. The field is required: the venue cannot be saved without it.
Why can't I toggle “Shared shift for the point”?
While the venue has an open cash shift the switch is locked — otherwise the open shift could get lost for some of the registers. Close the shift (see “Sign-in, PIN and shift”) and change the setting.
Where are the venue's halls and tables configured?
The venue header on the dashboard has a “Halls & tables” button — it opens the venue's halls and their tables, including the per-table service-charge percent. See “Table orders” for details.
