Quick sale — Paloma POS 2
This article is about Paloma POS 2 — the new touchscreen Paloma cash-register app. It covers the quick order: how to open it, add items from the menu, search an item by name, add a custom item with an open price, change quantity, resume an already-open order, and move to payment. If you are not sure this is your app, start with “How to tell you have Paloma POS 2”. The shift must be open — see “PIN login and opening the shift”.
Overview
- A quick order is a sale not tied to a table — good for take-away and a busy counter. Table orders work differently — see “Table orders”.
- Items are added by tapping menu tiles or by searching by name.
- You can sell something that is not in the menu via a custom item with a manual price.
- The finished order goes to payment — see “Taking payment”.
Step 1. Open a quick order
On the main menu screen tap the Quick order tile. The order screen opens: the category menu tiles on the left (or full screen on a narrow device) and the order cart on the right, empty until you add items.
If you already have one or more parked quick orders, re-entering does not silently restore a check — the app shows the list of open quick orders plus a “New order” row. Tap “New order” to start fresh, or tap an existing row to continue it (see below).
Step 2. Add an item from the menu
- Tap a category to open its items.
- Tap an item tile — it is added to the cart as one line.
- Tapping the same item again increases its quantity (a discounted or kitchen-fired line opens as a separate line).
Each cart line is numbered in order (1, 2, …). Below the list are the totals: “Subtotal” and “Total”.
Step 3. Search an item by name
- Tap the “Search item” field above the menu. On a narrow screen it is collapsed to a magnifier icon — tap it to expand the field.
- Start typing — the category grid is replaced in place by matching results.
- Tap the item you need to add it.
- Clear the field to bring the category grid back.
If nothing matches, the screen shows a no-match state — check the spelling or clear the query.
Step 4. Custom item (open price)
For an item or service that is not in the menu, use the “Custom item” button:
- Tap “Custom item” on the order screen.
- Enter the item “Name” and its price.
- Confirm — the item is added to the cart as a normal line.
Separately, some menu items have an “Open price” tile — adding one opens a keypad to enter the price. The right to price freely is set by the administrator (the “Custom item” / “Custom price” permission).
Step 5. Change quantity
Select a cart line — a control row appears under it: a note, a discount, and a quantity stepper with − and + buttons and the current number between them.
- + increases the quantity by one; − decreases it.
- Lowering the quantity to zero removes the line. A not-yet-sent line is removed immediately; for a saved or fired line the app asks for a reason.
Resume an open quick order
A quick order can be parked and resumed later:
- To park the current cart and start a new one, use the new-quick-order button.
- On the next entry to Quick order, the app shows the list of parked orders. Tap a row to reopen it with its items and keep going.
- Open orders also appear in the order list under the “Open” tab — see “Order list”. From there you can continue or pay.
Step 6. Move to payment
When the items are ready, tap “Pay check” (the button shows the amount due). The payment screen opens, accepting “Cash”, “Card” or “Other”. See “Taking payment” and “Pre-bill and receipt”.
Common problems
- “No active order to pay.” — the cart is empty. Add at least one item and retry.
- “Open the shift before taking payment.” — the shift is closed. Open it and retry — see “PIN login and opening the shift”.
- Item not found in search — check the spelling; it may be on the stop list or not synced yet. If it was just created in the dashboard, return to the main screen and reopen the quick order — the catalog re-reads without a restart.
- No “Custom item” button — the operator lacks the permission; the administrator grants it in access settings.
- The app asks for a reason when lowering quantity — the line is already saved or fired; pick a reason. To fully remove it, see “Void and refuse items”.
FAQ
How is a quick order different from a table order?
A quick order is not tied to a table — it is a take-away or counter sale. A table order is attached to a specific table in the dining room. See “Table orders”.
I left the order without paying. Is it lost?
No. An unpaid quick order is parked and stays open. It appears in the parked list when you enter Quick order and under the “Open” tab in the order list.
How do I sell an item that is not in the menu?
Tap “Custom item”, enter a “Name” and price. It is added as a normal line and is part of the payment.
An item was created in the dashboard but is not on the register. What do I do?
Return to the main screen and reopen the quick order — the catalog re-reads and the new group or item appears without restarting the app. If it is still missing, wait for sync or check the stop list.
