Device modes — Paloma POS 2

This article is about Paloma POS 2 — the new Paloma register app. It explains how to dedicate a device to a role: a Kitchen Display (KDS), a customer «Заказ готов» ready board, a self-service kiosk, a «Только отчёты» reports-only viewer, or an idle attract slideshow — and how to switch the device back to a normal register. Overview

A single device has two different ways to work with kitchen and customer screens, and they must not be confused.

• Menu shortcut — just adds a button to the register's side menu. The device stays a normal register: it still takes orders and payments, and you open the screen manually. Nothing is locked.
• Device role (mode) — dedicates the device to one screen. It opens straight to that screen on launch and blocks all other screens — exiting requires a manager PIN. This is how you set up a dedicated kitchen tablet, a ready board, or a kiosk.

All of these live in «Настройки» → «Оборудование» (Settings → Hardware) and apply to this device only — they do not carry over to other registers.

The «Управление» (Management) mode stands apart — a manager's device with no selling (reports, warehouse, catalog, employees). Unlike the roles in the table, you do not switch into it in Settings: a device enters Management when someone signs in on it with an employee login and password while no workplace is bound to the device. How to open device settings

1. Sign in on the register with your PIN.
2. Open «Настройки» → «Оборудование».
3. Pick the category you need:
   • «Доступно в меню» (subtitle «киоск · табло · KDS») — side-menu shortcuts.
   • «Роль устройства» (subtitle «как работает это устройство») — modes that dedicate the device.

Each mode shows a «Вкл» (On) or «Выкл» (Off) status.

Show shortcuts in the menu (no locking)

Use this when one device sometimes acts as a register and sometimes as a kitchen screen or kiosk.

1. Open «Настройки» → «Оборудование» → «Доступно в меню».
2. Turn on the switches you need:
   • «Кухонный дисплей доступен» — the «Кухонный дисплей» shortcut appears in the side menu.
   • «„Заказ готов" доступен» — the «Заказ готов» shortcut appears.
   • «Киоск доступен» — the «Киоск» shortcut appears.
3. The shortcut appears at once, no restart needed. Open the screen from the side menu and return to the register through the same menu.

These switches only show the buttons and do not put the device into a mode — the register keeps taking orders and payments. More about kitchen screens is in «Kitchen».

Dedicate the device to a mode

Use a mode when a tablet should work only as a board, a kiosk, or a reports screen. On launch the device opens straight to its screen and will not let you onto others — this protects it from accidental taps.

Step 1. Pick a role

1. Open «Настройки» → «Оборудование» → «Роль устройства».
2. Turn on the switch you need:
   • «Табло „Заказ готов"» — a customer ready board (shows order statuses only).
   • «Режим киоск-устройства» — a self-service kiosk for guests.
   • «Только отчёты» — the device shows today's sales straight from the cloud, with no shift and no selling.

Step 2. Confirm the switch

Each mode asks for confirmation because the device locks once it is on:

• Board — «Закрепить это устройство за табло выдачи?»
• Kiosk — «Закрепить это устройство за киоском самообслуживания?»
• Reports-only — «Перейти в режим „только отчёты"?»

Tap «Продолжить» to enable the mode, or «Отмена» to keep the device as a normal register. After you confirm, the device opens its screen immediately and stays in that mode even after a restart.

Step 3. Switch the device back to a normal register

Exiting any mode is protected by a manager PIN:

1. On the dedicated screen, tap the settings icon (the gear) — usually in a corner of the screen.
2. The «Доступ к настройкам» dialog appears with the note «Введите PIN, чтобы открыть Настройки.». Enter the PIN of an employee allowed into settings.
3. «Настройки» → «Оборудование» → «Роль устройства» opens. Turn off the enabled mode — the device returns to a normal register.

On the Kitchen Display and the «Заказ готов» board opened as a menu shortcut, open the side menu and tap «Выход» to leave — the device returns to the PIN screen, from which you can sign back in on the register.

Idle attract slideshow

While the device is idle, it can play a slideshow of images — on the kiosk, on the customer display, or on the «Заказ готов» board.

1. Open «Настройки» → «Оборудование» → «Рекламная заставка».
2. Tap «Добавить изображения» and pick your images. They are stored on this device only.
3. Turn on the screens where it should play:
   • «Показывать на экране киоска в простое»
   • «Показывать на экране клиента»
   • «Показывать на экране „Заказ готов"»
4. In «Секунд на изображение» set how long each image stays on screen.

The slideshow disappears as soon as an order starts and returns when the device is idle again.

Common problems

• No kitchen, board, or kiosk shortcut in the menu — the matching switch is off on this device. Turn on «Кухонный дисплей доступен», «„Заказ готов" доступен», or «Киоск доступен» in «Настройки» → «Оборудование» → «Доступно в меню».
• The device opens straight to a board or kiosk on launch, not the register — a mode under «Роль устройства» is enabled. That is expected for a dedicated device. To get the register back, enter through the settings gear with the manager PIN and turn the mode off.
• «Неверно — попробуйте снова» — a wrong PIN was entered in the «Доступ к настройкам» dialog. Try again or ask a manager who has settings access.
• «Нет связи. Это устройство показывает отчёты из облака — подключитесь к интернету и повторите.» — the «Только отчёты» mode reads data straight from the cloud and does not work offline. Check your internet and tap «Обновить».
• «Не удалось загрузить отчёты.» — a device in «Только отчёты» mode could not load its data. Tap «Повторить»; if that does not help, check the connection.
• «Не удалось загрузить доску заказов. Повторите попытку.» — the «Заказ готов» board could not load its data. Retry; if that does not help, check the connection and sync.
• «Меню недоступно» — the kiosk has no catalog. Refresh the catalog from the back office and return to the device.
• The attract slideshow does not appear — there are no images, or the switch for that screen is off. Check the «Рекламная заставка» section.
• I enabled a mode by accident and cannot exit — exit is always through the settings gear and the manager PIN. Enter the PIN in the «Доступ к настройкам» dialog and turn the mode off under «Роль устройства».

FAQ

What is the difference between "available in the menu" and "device role"?

A switch under «Доступно в меню» (for example «Кухонный дисплей доступен») only adds a button to the side menu — the device stays a normal register. A mode under «Роль устройства» (for example «Табло „Заказ готов"») dedicates the device to one screen and blocks the others; exiting needs a manager PIN.

How do I return a device from board or kiosk mode to a register?

On the dedicated screen tap the settings gear, enter the manager PIN in the «Доступ к настройкам» dialog, open «Настройки» → «Оборудование» → «Роль устройства», and turn off the enabled mode.

Do these settings carry over to other registers?

No. Every mode and shortcut applies to this device only. Configure the role and shortcuts separately on each tablet.

Do I need a separate tablet for the kitchen or the board?

Not necessarily. The Kitchen Display and the «Заказ готов» board can be opened as a shortcut on a normal register. A dedicated device in «Роль устройства» mode is handy when the screen must run all day without the risk of accidental taps — more in «Kitchen».

Why does «Только отчёты» mode not work without internet?

This device shows today's sales straight from the cloud and runs no shift. With no connection there is nowhere to pull the data from, so you see «Нет связи. Это устройство показывает отчёты из облака — подключитесь к интернету и повторите.». A normal register still works offline.

Can I turn on the attract slideshow without putting the device into kiosk mode?

Yes. «Рекламная заставка» is a separate setting: it plays a slideshow while idle and does not lock the device. Which screens it plays on (kiosk, customer display, «Заказ готов» board) are chosen with the switches inside that section.
